Happy birthday Daddy, 60 Today

Today my dad celebrates his 60th birthday.

I am so excited to spend this special day with him.

I know everyone thinks their dads are amazing but I know my dad is ha ha.

I love my dad with all my heart.

Let me tell you a little about my dad.

He is always there for me and my family.

The endless nights I spent in the hospital with Olivia my dad was a constant visitor. Getting cuddles or holding her hand letting her know Grandad is was for her.

He was always there for her and for me too, especially when I really needed his strength. He was my rock.

Olivia like her sisters loves her grandad. Her eyes used to light up at the sound of his voice.

When the girls perform he is always there. So very proud of his granddaughters. His friends would testify to the pride he has of them. I’m sure they have been made to listen or watch videos of singing performances or Iceskating competitions over and over again.

Yet it’s not just the girls he opens his heart too. My two foster sons both have shared his heart. The man has been covered in vomit and dribble all given in love of course.

My dad is my inspiration. I have watched him work so hard for all he has achieved. I have watched him struggle but always caring for others first.

He Is an amazing man and besides him refusing to stow me away in his suitcase when he holidays at some amazing places I do love him with all my heart.

Happy Birthday Dad here’s to your sixties being full of happiness, laughter and love.

We love you xxx

60th

My baby is a teenager.

My baby is 13 today.

How in the world did this happen?

The cute little miss is now heading into the teenage years.

How I love this beautiful girl.

Her sweet kind heart brightens many a day.

Her loving nature is such a gift.

I’ve watched her grow and struggle over the last few years. Losing her sister left such a scar on this precious heart. Yet her kindness and courage has been paramount on our fostering journey.

Her desire and heart to care for others is simply inspiring.

Her energy is infectious and exhausting. She throws herself into everything with such zeal. School sports teams, drama and of course singing her beautiful voice blessing us all.

I cannot believe we have reached this milestone already.

Can I hold on to her a little longer?

My beautiful new teenager, never doubt how loved you are.

Never forget what a gift you are to us and how proud we are to be your parents.

I’m excited to see what the future holds for you and so sure you will bless this world in all that you do.

I love that your biggest ambition is to help others.

Enjoy your special day my beautiful girl.

You are my baby and will always be my baby.

Love you my little wise owl.

Only this lifetime

images-1

Today is one of my favourite days of the year.

The essence of hope is in all that we do.

From the church celebratory service to the family easter meal.

All are filled with joy.

This is the day Jesus conquered the grave.

Death has no victory.

The empty tomb.

I love this celebration as it reminds me of the promise.

The promise of eternal life.

I never knew how much I needed this promise until four years ago.

When death stole my beautiful daughter from me.

When loss broke my heart into millions of pieces.

It is because of the promise we celebrate today that I can go on.

The hope of this gift that keeps the blood rushing through my veins.

I am only separated from Livvy by this lifetime.

Eternity is ours to have together.

One day forever will be ours.

May your soul glitter.

“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

Have you ever wanted to just escape?

To be somewhere where nobody knows you?

No expectations.

No preformed opinions of who you are or who you should be.

To become anyone you desire.

To be

To be free

From the moment you are born you are someones child and their expectations their opinions are influencing who you are and who you are to become.

From the foods we are fed to music we hear.

EXPECTATIONS

Society breeds conformity, it rebels away from people who don’t tie the party line.

Labelling, grouping, controlling.

Why do we as the human race try to create groups, clones ?

Why do we not celebrate individualism and self expression?

Why are there right ways or wrong ways

Sometimes the journey is more important that the destination.

Sometimes the searching is more important than the finding

Getting lost should be the celebration of a new direction.

Life is for living,

May you wander freely

May your soul glitter with your freedom to be you

Be the you,you wish to be.

Birthdays are special

I’ve been thinking about birthdays recently and how sometimes we don’t realise how special each one is.

I guess as you get older the excitement wears off, I mean who really wants to be old.

But I believe that we look at it the wrong way.

A birthday marks the passing of another year that you were blessed to be here.

Now I don’t wish to sound maudlin or miserable far from it, I want us to realise the celebration of life.

When my children were younger every birthday had a party, we celebrated with family and friends. It was a celebration a real time to rejoice, but as we all get older its becomes less so.

I think often of Livvy and the fact that we only had 9 birthdays to celebrate with her. I give thanks that we celebrated each one in style.

But it shouldn’t take the fear of loss to make us celebrate each other. Each year we get to spend together is special, it is a gift and should be rightly appreciated as such.

Birthdays are times to let the people you love and cherish know how much you value them.

So be it a 21st or a 42nd let’s celebrate the gift of a year and the blessing of having each other in our lives.
