#Enjoymorewater Challenge

Getting enough fluid into your children isn’t easy.

I thought it was hard when my girls were younger trying to convince them that they really needed to finish their juice or have that extra glass or two when the weather was warm. Though In hindsight I now see that although this was hard I still had a little influence over them and with the right encouragement they normally enjoyed it in the end or at least drank it because mom said so.

Fast forward a few years and now as the mom of teenagers and young adults  I want to scream. It’s as if drinking enough fluid to keep them hydrated is asking them to swim the ocean. Their daily juice cups sliding over to the super carbonated drinks that I so don’t want them to fill up with.
So project make drinking cool again had to start. From posh water bottles to ice lollies I have encouraged my girls to keep drinking wisely and to drink enough to keep their body hydrated. I have had a slight bit of success as  my two oldest girls are never seen without a bottle of water in their hands.
So this then brings me to my youngest daughter, Brodie the child who never stays still, who plays sport 5 days out of 7 but who hates water with a vengeance.
All I can say is thank you Robinsons their pocket sized squashd have literally saved me from banging my head against the wall but also my daughter from the dehydration headaches to which she was prone. She now fills up before school and then can top up throughout the day using the squashd at the school water foundation.
With the great selection of flavours even my picky madam can not say she is bored. In fact within school now it’s become a bit of excitement regarding what flavour she has today. I mean its not like you would expect the kids to be excited over exams would you.

Milton a brand I can trust

I have been a user of Milton sterilising products for as long as I can remember. They were a constant for my mom when raising us and I remember the cold water sterilising system from when my siblings were babies. So it was obvious that when I had children this would be the brand I would turn to. Besides the fact that I love the smell there is something about the brand that has always filled me with reassurance.

So when my first little one popped into the world nearly twenty years ago, Milton sterilising fluid became a staple in my kitchen. From the early days of sterilising the girls bottles to the last days of using the fluid to cleanse medical equipment etc.

So when approached about the new Milton Mini portable soother steriliser I thought why not give it a go. To be fair my girls never used dummies but our new little one does but even then if I was being truthful I wasn’t sure how much use I would have for it.

The Mini is 100% watertight, cleans and sterilises soothers everywhere and is BPA free

Fast forward to a week in sunny Wales and a baby who seemed to think dropping his dummy on the beach was a fun game I can tell you I love this portable steriliser, it became a game changer.

After all these years I love the fact that Milton are still bringing new products to the market that help parents raise their children in a safe and healthy environment.

•I was gifted a mini portable steriliser for the purpose of this review but all opinions are my own.

The full range of Milton Mini Portable Soother Sterilisers has a RRP of £6.99 and is available at John Lewis, Mothercare, Ocado, Superdrug and Tesco as well as many independent pharmacies and nursery retailers.

A film that will inspire, challenge and break your heart.

If you want to watch a film that will inspire, challenge and break your heart in one go then I highly recommend the movie “Room”.

Brie Larson is nothing more than outstanding, her performance winning her ‘Best Actress’ Academy Award®, BAFTA and a Golden Globe. Jacob Tramblay delivers a performance well beyond his years.

Room is based on a best selling novel by Emma Donoghue and takes you on a journey, from the depraved into the inspirational. Room tells you the story of a devoted loving mother who wants nothing more than for her son to live a typical life, yet there is nothing typical about their existence.

Be prepared to laugh, cry and experince emotions that you never knew you had when you join this mother and son on their journey of fear, bravery and freedom.

I cannot recommend this film enough, all I can say is you won’t see the world the same way after watching this film.

Released on ON DVD, BLU-RAY & EST ON 9TH MAY 2016

“Room” is a must see.

Sunglasses style

One of my favourite things of the summer is getting to wear my sunglasses, I simply love them. Unfortunately I have a habit of losing them, often leaving them places.

So when I was contacted by Cheapass Sunglasses, I fell in love with both the name of the store, the range and especially the cost.

The selection of styles is fantastic It took me ages to decide.

My first chosen pair were aptly named Fabulous, they are vintage in style and super stylish. I found them a little large for my face but my daughter loved them and has already helped herself to the pair.

My second pair was this stylish pair named Formidable, the matt black was what caught my eye and to be honest these are now my favourite by far. I just love them.

So if you are after a quality pair of sunglasses but don’t have a massive budget check out

*I was given two pair of glasses for the purpose of this review but all my opinions are true and valid and completely my own.

The personal touch

When it comes to buying gifts for those I love I really like them to be special.

I want to show them that I have taken the time to think about what they like and who they are.

This is why I love personalised gifts, something thats shows that the extra care and attention has been taken.

This Valentine’s day I wanted to buy my husband something that he loved but also something that I knew would bless his heart.

This is why I choose this Engraved Leather Knot Bracelet its simple personalisation made it super special when I had Livvy’s name engraved on in. Having Livvy close to him really blessed my husband and he got rather emotional when he received it.

Alan's bracelet

In fact I loved Alan’s so much that I also ordered myself an Engraved Leather Knot Bracelet. I also now get to have Livvy with me all the time.

How special are they!

I am in love with the “ I just love it” site (no pun intended).

They have an amazing range of gifts that can be personalised for those you love. I have my eye on this gorgeous engraved heart handle chopping board.

Lets be honest I am in love with quite a lot of the gifts on the site, the stationary, the photo frames and some of the nursery gifts are just wow.

Honestly don’t take my word for it go take a look for yourself.

They have some fantastic ideas for Easter gifts, special birthdays and so much more.

  • I was gifted the bracelets for the purpose of the review but all opinions are my own and are true.

A Valentine snapshot

I love photography, sometimes the right shot can speak volumes.

My walls are covered In family photos in fact I have so many that my children describe the living room as a shrine to them.

I just love filling my walls with memories captured on film.

Days out, magic moments and cute adorable smiles.

I can’t tell you how grateful I am now for the many photos I have of Livvy. How I still get to see her mischievous smile and the twinkle in her eyes.

My photos are gifts.

So when thinking of Valentine’s Day and what to get the love of my life what better than a canvas of one of our special moments.

I absolutely love it.

Three Fish – Newport

There are reviews and there are awesome reviews and where food is concerned I am in my element.

So when asked to go visit the newly refurnished Three Fish Beefeater restaurant in Newport I wasn’t going to say no.

We have visited Beefeaters in the past and enjoyed wonderful steaks so this was just up our street.

The Three Fish is a lovely restaurant and was easy to find and park. Its on site with a premier inn if you fancied staying the night. The surrounding area is beautiful so well worth a visit.

We all had started with Brodie and I choosing the crunchy chicken wings in BBQ sauce whilst Alan had the garlic prawns. Both Brodie and I enjoyed our wings, Brodie so much that we had to tell her to stop sucking the bones, (seriously it was as if we had never fed her). Alan enjoyed his garlic prawns but would have prefered a little more garlic but he does say that about everything.

For our mains Alan and I both choose steak, I had the rib eye and Alan had the fillet. Brodie ordered the chicken and ribs. We all enjoyed our meals, Alan was a little disappointed as his steak was a little fatty not something you would expect really from a fillet.

Chicken and ribssteak

For pudding Alan polished off an Eton Mess Sundae and Brodie the Cookie dough one. I was a little more reserved and just had a coffee.

Cookie doughEton mess

The restaurant is beautiful furnished and lovely to eat in.

Our only complaints was the wait for the starters  as it was a lot longer than we expected and didn’t go well with the boy but once the food came he did calm down loads. He enjoyed the three course kids meal which he absolutly loved.

The staff were pleasant but a little scarce.

If there was maybe more staff and quicker meal times it would have been perfect.

All in all we had a lovely family and do think Three Fish Beefeater is well worth a visit.

*We were gifted with vouchers towards this meal but all views and opinions are my own.

Yummy yummy, whoops

Do you ever have those days when you know you have forgotten something but cannot remember for the life of it what it is.

I had one of those days yesterday.

Maybe I had just tried to pack to much into one weekend.

Maybe my mind was elsewhere or maybe I’m just getting old.

Whatever the reason last nights attempt at this beautiful traditional pork scratchings recipe ended up with me running out the house with a black stinky baking tray and a hubby banning me from the kitchen forever.

When asked if I fancied trying this recipe I was super excited.

Who doesn’t love a nice pork scratching and considering I have eaten and loved the restaurant in the Copthorne hotel I knew this recipe has the potential to be super tasty.

Of course the recipe does have you leaving the pork skin in the oven on low for 6 to 8 hours, what it doesn’t have you doing is leaving it for way over that time and simply just forgetting about it. ☺️

Whoops, does not seem to come close.

Thankfully I have saved the recipe and may try again at a later day.

Well that’s if my husband allows me back into the kitchen.

On a serious note though you really should check out the recipe for yourself and the Copthorne hotel. I’m still dreaming about the lamb koftas I had there a few months ago, with the Head Chef Michael Chambers the food is seriously yummy.

* I was given the ingredients try, destroy this recipe.

My warm dry feet and wellies that fit..

I have wide feet and they get wider each day thanks to my wonderful illness which causes them to swell. To be honest this sucks, gone are the days when I could wear any shoes I wanted. Gone are my beloved Dr Martens, I am limited by what I can wear.

For the last couple of years I have been on the search for a pair of wellies. This may sound strange but as a family  of campers a good pair of wellingtons are a must. They are perfect for muddy camp fields and for slipping on quickly as you potter over in the early hours to the loos for a wee.

Anyway for the last few years I have had to just admire my families warm dry feet as I could not find wellies to fit.

But no more woo hoo thanks to the wonderful company Jileon I now am the proud owner of these babies.

I absolutely loved them, only last week I got to test drive them when on weekend on the Gower the heavens opened and the beautiful green field turned into lovely muddy mud.

These babies kept my feet warm and dry and guess what because Jileon make wellies for the wider feet they fit like a dream.

I am beyond happy.

I already have my eyes on my next pair.

I am so happy, I have now joined the warm dry feet club and if like me you have been on a search for gorgeous wide fitting wellies search no more, check out Jileon they also offer normal widths for women, men and children too.

* I was gifted these wellies for the purpose of this review but all opinions are my own.

Keeping your home safe.

As Foster carers we have annual health and safety checks and yes whilst I complain every year about it I have appreciated how it has brought to our attention hidden dangers within the home.

It has shown us things that we hadn’t thought about or even realised were a danger and actually things that shocked us.

•Things like us having our water-butt close to our flat roof making it easy for burglars to hop up through one of our windows.

•Making sure our fire alarms and carbon monoxide monitors were all working well, so we didn’t pay the highest price ever with our lives.

•Checking the locks on our windows, not only to protect us against being robbed but to keep the kids safe by having the child restrictors ones fitted  so that the windows only open half way so the kids don’t go jumping out or fall out by accident.

•Making sure that household cleaners are locked away, so that young children don’t have access to things like bleach, dishwasher tablets etc.

Seriously there are so many things that we had to think about to protect our homes, and ourselves.

Legal and General have a fantastic online interactive house which allows you to see inside a virtual family home for the purpose of foreseeing dangers. This is a fantastic tool which gives you simple ideas to help protect your home and your loved ones.

One of the main protections we have for ourselves is home insurance this protects us when accidents happen or the crimes occur.  Policies vary and you can make sure the cover you have fits your requirements.

Seriously check out policies for both contents and buildings and make sure your home is protected today.

These insurances are things we never hope to use but are always glad we have.
